Inside Hugh Jackman’s toughest injuries playing Wolverine | Celebrity News | Showbiz and TV

He is without a doubt one of the most famous actors on the silver screen.

Hugh Jackman catapulted to fame when he took on his breakout role, Wolverine, in 2000. Since then, the Australian heartthrob has only gone from strength to strength.

He’s starred in 10 films as the Marvel superhero, as well as branching out into the musical genre with The Greatest Showman in 2017. But it hasn’t always been easy for the father of two.

As the Hollywood heartthrob celebrates his 56th birthday with his loved ones, let’s take a look at some of his serious injuries suffered while playing the legendary mutant.

Groin injury

During the first film, the Australian heartthrob was still getting used to his first time on a big film set.

While filming his epic battle scene, the star suffered one of his worst injuries to date when he jumped over the side of the Liberty State. Unfortunately, the actor had his crotch caught in the harness seconds before he jumped out of the figure on set.

And things only got worse for the heartthrob. It took a while for the rest of the cast and crew to realize that his “primitive” screams were not part of the film and that Hugh was actually in pain.

Many believed he was just giving his best animalistic performance as the masked superhero. Reflecting on the incident, he later admitted: “That was very brutal. I screamed a lot, and they continued because they realized it was me who was expressing the primal scream.

Mutilated ear

But that wasn’t the only injury he suffered on the set of the first film – he also injured his ear after falling during the same filming.

The star was supposed to fly past the lens, but it veered off course and headed straight for the stationary camera.

That first shoot was difficult, he laughed. “(I had a) mutilated ear, mutilated wedding equipment.”

Intimate accident

While filming 2003’s X-Men 2, the star nearly put her “wedding apparatus” at risk once again during a quick and frantic change.

In the first two films, the actor used real metal claws – however, the studio soon changed their mind after a worrying accident. During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, he revealed that he cut his inner thigh during a nude scene.

He told viewers: “There was a very intense first scene and I insisted on a closed set. I ran to the corner and all the female crew were gathered there.

“I tried to cover myself and cut the inner thigh – luckily it was just the inner thigh but the metal claws had to be removed – you can’t have bits flying.”

‘Broken’ neck

In 2013, the actor finally took a step back from filming many of his dangerous stunts after a terrifying incident during the box office hit The Wolverine.

The award-winning actor feared he had broken his neck while filming a daring scene in which his character jumped from a train carriage. Although his injuries weren’t serious, it was enough to scare his then-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, into changing his mind about filming.

Speaking at the time, the Oscar nominee recalled: “In the film, there’s a scene where I swing from the inside of a train to the outside and my neck gets stuck.

“I thought it was broken. It was one of those moments where my wife looked at me and said, ‘What are you doing? No more playing in the school yard! You are not invincible!
