Serious indictment of law and order in shambles: Cong on Baba Siddique murder | Politics News

The Congress on Saturday said the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique is a serious indictment of the “crumbling” law and order situation in Maharashtra and demanded a thorough and transparent probe into the incident.

Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was shot dead by three men in Mumbai’s Bandra area on Saturday. Two of the attackers were arrested, authorities said.

In a post on X, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said Siddique’s tragic death is shocking beyond words.

“In this hour of mourning, I offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends and supporters,” he said.

“Justice must be ensured and the current government of Maharashtra must order a thorough and transparent investigation. The culprits must be brought to trial at the earliest. Accountability is key,” Kharge said.

Siddique (66), a former Congressman, was admitted to Lilavati Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

He was attacked outside the office of his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique near the Colgate ground in Nirmal Nagar, Bandra East, police said.

Siddique represented the Bandra (West) seat thrice in the assembly. A prominent Muslim leader from Mumbai, he was also known for being close to several Bollywood stars.
