This Silent Hill 2 mod restores the infamous no-ranch comic sign – GameSpew

Silent Hill 2 was released less than a week ago and there are already pages and pages of PC mods. There’s no Randy Savage, so far, but there are mods to insert James’ original PS2 skin, let you play as Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, remove fog, and more. But they pale in comparison to a Silent Hill 2 mod that restores the Silent Hill ranch sign from Comic Sans.

If you’re wondering what the hell we’re talking about, you’ve missed one of Konami’s wonky remasters. Silent Hill 2the original was released on PS2 and later on Xbox and PC. However, as it went out of print, it was a bit difficult to pull off despite its acclaim.

So, in 2021, publisher and developer Konami launched the Silent Hill HD Collection on PS3 and Xbox 360. And thanks to Xbox backwards compatibility, you can play on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S today. The problem is that Silent Hill 2packaged with Silent Hill 3it is based on incomplete code. It has had several issues, including a widely mocked “Silent Hill Ranch” sign that is written in Comic Sans.

Now, modder and YouTuber ToastedShoes has added this noteworthy sign, which Konami would no doubt forget sooner, to Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2. Walk past it as James and you can behold it in all its unstable glory. The good news is that the Bloober team is less likely than Konami to simply scrap its source code. So if ten years from now we’re playing a remastered remake of Silent Hill 2 on PlayStation 7, it should be a little more presentable.
