Emma Beynon: Cardiff City midfielder announces retirement

Cardiff City midfielder Emma Beynon has announced her retirement from football.

The former Wales international made the announcement as she revealed she was having a second child.

Beynon, 28, was player of the year for the Bluebirds, who won the Welsh treble last season, including scoring in the Welsh Cup victory over Wrexham.

Capped under Jayne Ludlow in 2017, Beynon spent 10 years at Swansea City, winning four Welsh titles before switching to Cardiff last summer.

Both Cardiff and Swansea paid tribute to Beynon, who confirmed the news on social media, writing: “I will be forever grateful to the players, coaching staff and club for believing in me when they did.

“Last year as a Bluebird was one of the most memorable seasons in football.

“Winning the treble and being the best player last season seems like the perfect end to what has been an incredible 22 years of playing football.

“From the Champions League to my first cap for Wales, playing at every youth level and captaining my country, I feel happy with everything I have achieved playing football.

“Through all the ups and downs one thing was certain, my family was always by my side. I will forever be grateful for the love and support they have given me, but now I am more than ready for the next chapter of my life as a family of four.”
