India to host 2025 Junior Shooting World Cup, announces ISSF President Luciano Rossi

The governing body was speaking at the opening ceremony of the ISSF World Cup final in New Delhi.

The President of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), Mr. Luciano Rossi, praised India’s growing contribution to the development and growing popularity of shooting sports across the world. Rossi was addressing the media during a press conference, ahead of the New Delhi 2024 ISSF Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun World Cup Final, competitions for which begin here at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range on October 15.

Present at the side was Shri. Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, President, National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).

“I would like to congratulate India for their excellent performance at the recently concluded Junior World Championships in Peru. I would also like to inform you that we at ISSF will support India’s bid to host the Junior World Cup in 2025 and other future international events as we are approached by the NRAI.

“India continues to be a significant force in the shooting world, not only with its talented athletes, but also through its commitment to expanding the infrastructure and reach of the sport,” said the ISSF President.

“Hosting important events like the World Cup final is a testament to the efforts of everyone involved in the sport. The country’s achievements at the Olympic Games and other international events have inspired future shooters and its investment in developing grassroots programs and world-class facilities is setting an example for others to follow. It is no surprise that India is now a regular stop on the ISSF international calendar.”

Also sharing his thoughts was Shri. Singh Deo, who said, “India’s growing stature in shooting has been the result of a concerted and collaborative effort by all stakeholders who are creating a strong ecosystem, from grassroots programs to elite training facilities. Hosting events like the ISSF World Cup Final demonstrates India’s ability to elevate the sport of shooting across the world.

“We are committed to holding global events on a regular basis to not only help boost the confidence of the Indian team but also to help the next generations get inspired by watching their favorite stars in action live in front of them.”

There are four finals scheduled on each of the three days of competition in this traditional ISSF end-of-season showdown between the world’s best. Due to host country regulations, a minimum of two Indian shooters will be in action in each of the 12 individual Olympic events in the list.

“Shooting has witnessed a huge increase in popularity and passion among youth, women and athletes with disabilities in the country, which can be gauged from the laurels achieved in the Olympics, Paralympics and continental championships.

“We wish all the participants the best and are immensely grateful to the ISSF and the Government of India for all their support in hosting and organizing the ISSF World Cup Final in New Delhi,” said K Sultan Singh, General Secretary, NRAI.

The action begins on Tuesday (15/10) with the Women’s 10m Air Rifle being the first final on the calendar, followed by the corresponding men’s final. The Men’s and Women’s 10m Air Pistol finals are also scheduled for the first day. All finals will be preceded by qualifying rounds.

The World Cup will see 131 of the world’s best shooters from 37 nations, including several Olympic champions, take part in the season-ending competition that will determine the best shooter of the year, in each of the 12 individual Olympic events.

A squad of 23 Indian shooters will also be among them, taking on the world’s shooting elite at home.

The world’s six best athletes in the six combined ISSF World Cup stages held throughout 2024, together with the Paris Olympic medalists, the reigning ISSF World Cup Final champions and the reigning world champions achieved direct qualification in each of the 12 events, for the shooting extravaganza in New Delhi. .

“We are excited to be in India for the ISSF World Cup final, one of the most dedicated shooting sports nations in the world,” said Mr. Luciano Rossi. “After a successful season for our athletes and a wonderful Olympic Games in Paris, this is the perfect opportunity for everyone to end the season on a high,” he added.

The ISSF President also highlighted India’s remarkable rise as a shooting powerhouse, both in terms of athletes’ success and the country’s contributions to promoting the sport.

Three events, the men’s 10m Air Pistol, the men’s Trap and the women’s 25m Pistol, will see the three Paris medalists in the event compete for the maximum prize of 5,000 euros. All defending champions in each of the previous year’s 12 events in Doha will also be present to defend their titles.
