Passengers forced to keep feet up on nine-hour flight after toilet overflowed

A woman’s 9-hour flight turned into her worst nightmare after one of the onboard toilets overflowed, leaking dirty water onto the seat in front of her.

However, what was possibly even more disgusting was the response he received from the airline after informing them of the incident.

After the plane’s toilet overflowed and the woman was forced to keep her feet on the seat for more than 9 hours, she only received a 25% discount coupon for her next flight.

When Katie Wood booked a girls’ trip to Vienna with her mother, sister and niece, none of them could have predicted it would involve raw sewage.

However, that’s exactly what they experienced while returning to Toronto from vacation when one of the Air Canada flight’s bathrooms overflowed, spewing dirty water into the seating area.

They were forced to pull their legs to their chests to keep their feet off the ground for the entire 9-hour flight.

Wood shared some of the funny footage in a since-deleted TikTok video.

Although she reported that the flight attendants apologized and did the best they could to control the situation, the airline was not much help.

After landing, the passenger contacted Air Canada customer service and even sent footage of what happened on the flight, hoping to receive compensation.

Instead, they offered him a different alternative.

“They said, ‘Okay, here’s 25% off your next reservation,’” Wood reported.

The offer felt like a slap in the face to Wood. Not only did she never plan to book on Air Canada again to protect herself from E. coli, but she also never received her upgraded seats with more legroom and was placed in economy class on the flight to Vienna.

Now, all she is looking for from the company is a refund for the seats she never got and compensation for the entire flight, since she and her family spent all their time avoiding the sewage.

“I know this happens often because when you contact them, there’s a whole section that says, ‘I didn’t receive an upgrade I paid for,’ and all you have to do is click that button,” she said. .

“If you prepared for this on your website, you know this happens.”

When Wood insisted on a refund, she was asked to prove that she was not sitting in the flight’s upgrade seats by providing a photo of her boarding pass. However, as it had already been a month since the flight, it was reasonable that he no longer had his boarding pass.

She later received an email from the company stating that they were unable to fulfill her request.

“The goodwill compensation offered was for the inconvenience you suffered due to the bathroom problem. While we realize this does not meet your expectations, we sincerely hope you accept this as intended,” the email said.

“Respectfully, we are unable to offer additional compensation as requested.”

The passenger stated that the airline’s original offer of 25% off her next booking was not enough, given what had happened.

“A full refund for this flight is the only fair option,” commented one TikTok user.

“This is crazy! They owe you all your money back in my opinion,” wrote another user.

“Dispute the collection of credit”, recommended another.

While each airline has its own policies on refunds and agreements, if passengers encounter a biohazard during a flight or don’t receive the seats they paid for, they deserve to be fully compensated.

Customers want to book their flights with reliable airlines that provide them with the utmost respect and adequate service – and, hopefully, those that have an impeccable plumbing record to prevent any sewage from flooding their seats!
