Historic Metropole hotel complex offered temporary relief to Nainital’s traffic woes

The Center has granted temporary permission to use an open area inside the historically significant Metropole Hotel Complex in Nainital for parking purposes in order to ease traffic congestion in the busy tourist area.

This decision, made in the interest of the public, addresses the serious parking shortage that contributes to frequent traffic jams, especially during the summer when tourist numbers increase. The permission follows the resolution of extensive legal disputes, culminating in a Supreme Court mandate last year.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a No Objection Certificate to the Uttarakhand government allowing surface parking at this location. Initiated at the behest of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the project ensures that 90% of parking rental income will support the Custodian of Enemy Property, channeling to the Consolidated Fund of India, with oversight from MHA and CEPI.
