Ebonyi First Lady Announces N500,000 Monthly Donation for Visually Impaired Students

In commemoration of the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, the wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has announced the monthly donation of N500,000 to visually impaired students of the State Special School, Opefia, in the local government of Izzi Area.

Nwifuru, who spoke on the theme “Girls Vision for the Future” in Abakaliki, said the monthly support fund is in addition to a one million naira check from her Better Health Foundation for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Persons , BERWO, to meet your dietary needs.

“I have impacted the lives of the visually impaired by donating a monthly support fund of N500,000 in addition to a one million naira check from my foundation to meet their dietary needs.

“This philanthropy is in line with the core objective of my foundation, which aims to improve the lives of internally displaced, oppressed and needy people in rural areas.

“Visually impaired people face numerous challenges, especially demotion and discouragement in society, and should be treated with absolute kindness.

“The BERWO Foundation seeks to improve the safety of blind students by providing emergency numbers to report possible cases of sexual and gender-based violence. The support would improve and increase their sense of belonging and create awareness in the environment that these children with special needs have the protection of the state government,” he added.

She explained that the foundation would continue to create an enabling environment for children and other vulnerable people to have equal access and rights and enjoy the socio-economic benefits resulting from development processes in the state.

In the same vein, she visited the Nigeria Correctional Service Abakaliki Custodial Centre, Mile Four Abakaliki Hospital, Community Based Rehabilitation Centre, Home and Detention Facilities and Effata Orthopedic Clinic to revalidate the mantra mandate of ongoing administration of ‘The People’s Charter of Needs’.

The highlight of the visit was the delivery of a box containing 200 notebooks and other educational materials, bags of rice and garri, boxes of soap and hospital facilities, which were to be distributed to IDPs and patients accordingly.
