Citroën C4 and C4 X gain a bold new look, but lose gasoline versions

Inside, the updated C4 and C4 X have a new seven-inch digital driver display to match the 10-inch center touchscreen. It runs Citroen’s latest infotainment software and also comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is complemented by the redesigned ‘Advanced Comfort’ seats, which feature 15mm of extra foam and a denser center section.

Up to 20 advanced driver assistance systems are also available, from driver attention alert and blind spot monitoring to ‘Highway Driver Assist’, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning for Level 2 semi-autonomous driving.

Citroën e-C4 and e-C4 X, in addition to hybrid engines

The updated Citroen C4 and C4 X will arrive in showrooms early next year. When the order book opens, customers will have the simple option of choosing between hybrid or pure electric powertrains, with pure gasoline engines removed from both cars’ lineup as part of this facelift.

All hybrid models feature a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. For the Hybrid 100 configuration used exclusively by the base C4, it produces 99 hp and 205 Nm of torque. However, in the Hybrid 136 configuration offered in both cars, the three-pot engine delivers 134 hp and 230 Nm of torque.

In any case, the engine is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with an integrated electric motor. It provides an extra 28 hp and 55 Nm of torque and allows cars to be driven very short distances on electric power alone, such as when maneuvering in a parking lot or crawling through city traffic.

The electric motor also helps start the combustion engine when needed and helps charge the hybrid system’s 48V battery during deceleration. The small battery is located under the front seat, saving passenger space and luggage capacity.

Meanwhile, there are two battery/motor combinations for the e-C4 and e-C4 54 kWh and 154 hp Electric motor combination is good for up to 260 miles on a single charge.

The maximum charging speed for both versions of electric cars is still 100 kW, and a 20 to 80 percent recharge should take less than 30 minutes. Next year, Citroën will also offer a V2L (vehicle to charge) socket for the e-C4 and e-C4 X, allowing them to charge external devices such as laptops or even electric bikes using their batteries.
