A woman was trampled to death by a cow shortly after stopping in the same field to take a photo, an inquest heard.

Rebekah ‘Becki’ Morris, 29, was found dead after taking her dog for a walk near the village of Littlethorpe in Leicestershire on July 9, 2022.

Becki was last heard from when she sent a photo of nearby cattle to her mother, captioned with the word ‘cowz’, to her mother while texting her, the inquest at Leicester Crown Court on Monday said. .

Her parents became worried when she stopped responding to their messages and went looking for her in the field, who they recognized from the photo.

They found her injured and called 999, but she went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead shortly after 11pm.

Forensic pathologist Dr Michael Biggs, who carried out Becki’s post-mortem examination, said she suffered blunt force trauma and abrasions to her chest and shoulder, “consistent with hoof marks from a hit-and-run incident”.

“There was extensive damage to the liver, which led to severe internal bleeding. That’s the main reason Becki died,” he told the coroner.

Biggs said the number of injuries suggested it was a “relatively brief incident involving one cow” and not the entire herd.

“There were no other injuries to suggest anyone else was involved,” he added. ‘All injuries were consistent with a cattle trampling incident.’

‘The type and location of the injuries in this case, to me, were indicative of something else, like a large, heavy creature – like a cow.’

There were traces of alcohol and medication in Ms Morris’s blood at the time, but it was “not a dangerous combination”, Dr Biggs concluded.

Before the hearing, Becki’s father, David, told the BBC that his daughter was “the kind of person who lit up the room when she walked in.”

“She was a wonderful, lovely girl. She was kind, compassionate and always listened to anyone,” he said.

The fate of Becki’s dog has not yet been clarified in the ongoing investigation, which is expected to last five days.
