‘We’ll have to consider that’

Kyle Whittingham told reporters Monday afternoon that they “have to consider” the possibility of Cam Rising returning for another year of college football.

Rising played in three games this season for the Utes despite a hand injury he suffered against Baylor. That means if he doesn’t play again this year he could qualify for a medical redshirt.

Rising’s career is as unlucky as it sounds. He enrolled at Texas in early 2018 but never played for the Longhorns, instead transferring to Utah. And when he’s on the field, he’s seen a lot of success. In 2022, Rising threw for over 3,000 yards with 26 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, but suffered a knee injury that kept him out for the entire 2023 season. Rising also missed most of the 2020 season due to injury.

The Rising suffered yet another injury against Baylor, as mentioned above. His momentum took him into a row of drinking fountains, which injured his hand. He then suffered a leg injury against Arizona State that Whittingham said will keep him out “indefinitely.”
