Inside, the updated C4 and C4 X have a new seven-inch digital driver display, while the 10-inch central touchscreen now runs Citroen’s latest infotainment software. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also present on board, along with redesigned ‘Advanced Comfort’ seats, which have 15mm of extra foam and a denser center section.

Up to 20 advanced driver assistance systems are also available, from driver attention alert and blind spot monitoring to “Highway Driver Assist”, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning for Level 2 semi-autonomous driving.

Citroën e-C4 and e-C4 X, in addition to hybrid engines

The updated Citroen C4 and C4 X will arrive in showrooms early next year. When order books open, customers will be able to choose between pure gasoline, hybrid and pure electric power.

The only non-electrified option is the PureTech 130 configuration which uses a 128bhp 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine and is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

All hybrid models also feature a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. The Hybrid 100 version used exclusively by the base C4 produces 99 hp and 205 Nm of torque, but in the Hybrid 136 configuration offered in both cars, the engine delivers 134 hp and 230 Nm of torque.

In any case, the engine is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with an integrated electric motor. It provides an extra 28 hp and 55 Nm of torque and allows cars to be driven very short distances on electric power alone, such as when maneuvering in a parking lot or crawling through city traffic.

The electric motor also helps start the combustion engine when needed and helps charge the hybrid system’s 48V battery during deceleration. The small battery is located under the front seat, preserving passenger space and luggage capacity.

Meanwhile, there are two battery/motor combinations for the e-C4 and e-C4 54 kWh and the 154 hp electric motor The engine combination is good for up to 260 miles on a single charge.

The maximum charging speed for both versions of electric cars is still 100 kW, and a 20 to 80 percent recharge should take less than 30 minutes. Next year, Citroën will also offer a V2L (vehicle to charge) socket for the e-C4 and e-C4 X, allowing them to charge external devices such as laptops or even electric bikes using their batteries.
