Netflix announced a new show – House of Guinness – that will explore the story of the family behind the famous brewery earlier this year.

The show will be set between Dublin and New York during the 19th century, beginning after the death of Benjamin Guinness – who is credited with the brewery’s early success.

The series from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will chronicle the extraordinary success of the family behind the famous Irish brewery, founded in 1759 by Arthur Guinness.

But behind the story of wealth and prosperity lies a tragic story of seemingly endless misfortune for the family.

From Tara Browne, who died following a car crash in South Kensington, to scandalous affairs and divorces and the tragic drowning of Honor Uloth aged just 19 in 2020, the family appears to have suffered a series of devastating blows.

The personal losses faced by the Guinnesses have become so infamous that they are thought to be “cursed”, despite today having a fortune of more than £900 million.

Creator Steven Knight commented: “The Guinness dynasty is known the world over – wealth, poverty, power, influence and great tragedies are all intertwined to create a rich tapestry of material from which to draw.

“I’ve always been fascinated by their stories and am excited to bring the characters to life for the world to see.”

James Norton will star alongside Jack as well as a host of famous faces.

Fionn O’Shea, who starred in Normal People as Daisy Edgar Jones’ love interest Jamie, will face off against one of the Guinness family members as Olivia Rodrigo’s boyfriend, Louis Partridge, is also part of the cast.

The star-studded cast also includes Masters of the Air star Anthony Boyle, Emily Fairn, who recently starred alongside Martin Freeman in The Responder, Niamh McCormack, Seamus O’Hara and Irish actress Dervla Kirwan.

Michael McElhatton and Danielle Galligan will also star with David Wilmot, who was cast alongside Florence Pugh in The Wonder, and Hilda Fay completing the line-up.
