Tesla Model Y gains seven-seat option

Tesla has unveiled a new seven-seat version of the Model Y, which will be available in the UK before the end of 2024.

Offered as an option on the Long Range AWD variant, the seven-seat configuration costs an additional £2,500.

The Model Y has been available with seven seats in other markets since launch, but until now has only been offered as a five-seat model in the UK.

There are currently only a few seven-seater electric cars. These include the Mercedes EQB and Kia EV9.

The Model Y’s new seven-seat cabin configuration offers a third row with two forward-facing seats that can be folded flat to maximize storage.

Access to the third row is facilitated by entry buttons located on the backrest of each outer seat in the second row. When pressed, the second row slides forward and folds, allowing for easy entry and exit. Once seated, third-row passengers have comfortable headroom thanks to their positioning under the rear window and can charge their mobile devices with two USB-C sockets.

The seven-seat Model Y offers up to 2,040 liters of cargo volume. There’s 117 liters of storage under the front bonnet and 363 liters behind the third row. Tesla says that with seven passengers the Model Y can still fit two carry-on bags in the trunk and two large suitcases in the trunk. When the third row is fully folded, the boot volume is 753 liters.

The seven-seater Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD costs £54,490.
