Thriller fans are looking forward to the new Netflix film with a stellar cast, scheduled for release on December 5th.

Black Doves sees Keira Knightly, Ben Whishaw and Sarah Lancashire join forces for the six-episode spy thriller.

If the teaser trailer is anything to go by, it’s going to be emotional, as the dramatic clip simply shows a headshot of the three stars, with blood on their faces, as a Lancashire voice over spy Reed says, “I’m looking to hire someone.”

She continues: “No one knows if they can actually do it until they try. And then they find out pretty quickly. Are you sure this is what you want?

Just in time for a festive night! Although we’re not sure if it’s exactly Love Actually or Bridget Jones vibes, just to be clear since Black Doves was created and written by Joe Barton, the man behind Giri/Haji and The Lazarus Project.

Pride and Prejudice star Keira is trading her muddy hem for fake blood as she plays a shrewd, no-nonsense mother and wife, Helen Webb, who is also a professional spy.

For a decade, Webb has passed on her politician husband’s secrets to the mysterious organization she works for: the Black Doves.

When her secret lover Jason (Andrew Koji) is murdered, her spymaster, Reed, calls on Helen’s old friend Sam Young (Ben Whishaw) to help her avoid the same fate while she tracks down her enemies.

Photos released by Netflix show Keira splattered in blood in a car alongside a grim-looking Ben, while Happy Valley star Sarah cut her blonde locks into a short bob for the fierce role.

It also appears to be a London Christmas film – with a touch of heart-pounding suspense, of course – as Keira is seen looking out over the Thames as snow falls everywhere.

Netflix teased the film starring the three actors “as you’ve never seen them before.”

It’s safe to say fans are excited about the tense teaser and electric cast, as @BorkorElse wrote: ‘Keira, Ben & Sarah. It’s going to be epic.

‘Can’t wait for it to be released,’ wrote @maxtheartist_ while supposed Happy Valley fan archiepops wrote on Instagram: ‘Sarah Lancashire! I don’t even care what it is!

It comes after Sarah scooped the best leading actress Bafta award for her portrayal of no-nonsense Sergeant Catherine Cawood in Sally Wainwright’s Yorkshire-set thriller swan song Happy Valley.

Fans were left in disarray after the final episode aired on BBC One in February last year, leaving a huge Sarah Lancashire hole in many crime drama-loving hearts.

Hopefully this can fill you in…

Black Doves is available to stream on Netflix on December 5th.
