Looking for the cheapest Bakers Choice Assorted cookies? Buy HERE

In an article that went viral on Tuesday, South Africans were shocked by the price of a 2kg box of Choice of varied bakers cookies in Choose and pay.

The price of R$ 369.99 left Mzansi stunned.

Turns out that’s not even close to the maximum amount you’ll pay for the popular holiday gift.

It’s not even the cheapest…

As reported by The South African, social media user @_NMabaso shared a photo of a 2kg box of Bakers Choice Assorted biscuits.

Biscuits have long been a common gift choice and favorite snack for many South Africans during the festive season, weddings and birthdays.

The box contains many popular cookies not found elsewhere, such as strawberry wheel, red wrapper, pink wafer, Eet-Sum-Mor, and lemon creams.

We did some research and here’s how much you can expect to pay for the same box in supermarkets and retail stores in South Africa:

Checkers R$ 279.99
Store R$ 289.99
Takealot R449.00
Macro R292.25
Choose and pay R$ 369.99
Woolworths Don’t be silly!

REACTIONS TO THE PRICE OF COOKIES

@OlifantJNR: “They can eat them themselves, we will buy flour and bake our own and/or support ekasi small businesses.”

@BlondieThamaga: “Multiple choices think we are our ancestors.”

@mphobenni: “No, it’s their way. Black Friday is approaching, so in the Black Friday sales, they will say 30%/40% off. You will say that they are cheap, without knowing that they still made more profit.”

@Ntsoanef: “I always thought this would cost R50. So much money for refined carbohydrates, excess salt and sugar? Good thing I’m not the target market.”

@ToniMutlanyana: “Buy your family a bucket of freshly baked cookies from the local bakery. My family and I haven’t bought mixed options in years; It has become very expensive.”

@porshe418: “No man. This is wild. I need Nara to share a recipe for this ASAP.”

@MagabaSana: “Black bakers, it’s your time to shine, let’s support Sis Nozuko or MaZet because what? haha Hayi bo.”
