‘Unhappy’ Man Utd star accused of ‘not caring’ when Gascoigne told him to leave PL and ‘go to Italy’

‘Unhappy’ Man Utd star accused of ‘not caring’ when Gascoigne told him to leave PL and ‘go to Italy’

Paul Gascoigne has given advice to Manchester United and England star Marcus Rashford, who has been accused of “not caring”.

The England international was excellent for Manchester United during the 2022/23 campaign, scoring 30 goals in all competitions.

RashfordErik ten Hag’s performance during this campaign came during Erik ten Hag’s first season as head coach and after he was heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain during the 2022 summer transfer window.

The forward was at his best in 2022/23, but his form has declined drastically since then as he has been heavily criticized since the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

So far this season, Rashford has scored just one goal in seven Premier League matches as he has not done enough to earn an England call-up as interim manager Lee Carsley preferred other options.

Rashford’s attitude has come under scrutiny in recent months and Gascoigne says he “doesn’t seem to care”. He also thinks the Man Utd star should look to leave his boyhood club.

“Yes, definitely, I think so,” said Gascoigne when asked whether Rashford should consider leaving Man Utd.

“I love Rashford, I think he’s an incredible player, but he just doesn’t seem to care. Even when he scores, he doesn’t seem happy about it, so there’s something going on there.

“If that’s the case, move on. You have some players who move on and then find something different. For Rashford, he doesn’t look happy playing in England. And some good clubs will come for him. Go to Italy, it will shake you.”

Former Man Utd striker Louis Saha doesn’t think Rashford is enjoying his football at the moment as he is “trying to do too much”.

“Marcus Rashford is not necessarily a guy who always plays with a smile on his face, like Ronaldinho.” Saha said.

“Can you ask him to change his personality? No. In terms of his approach, sometimes he tries to do too much and it can be frustrating when things don’t go his way.

“Everyone can be frustrated – as fans we are frustrated, so imagine how the players feel. I’m sure that when he starts playing again and enjoys football again, his body language will change too.

“The football they play is not fun. I’m not going to say it’s all down to tactics, but it’s part of Marcus’ job to find the right balance and communication with the fans and the people he works with – he needs to understand that.

“I was surprised against Porto that he left at half-time after scoring, when he was still recovering, and the following week he was playing. Sometimes I am perplexed by the decisions.”
