The daughters of an elderly Colorado man with dementia say their parents’ home was taken over by intruders after their father offered to help a woman he saw sleeping in her car.

William and Arlene Towns have lived in their Colorado Springs home for 50 years, but say they have since been forced out by unwanted tenants.

Her daughters say what started as an act of kindness has now spiraled out of control, with the woman moving on to her “threatening and confrontational” boyfriend and his 15-year-old son.

They say the family used the property to grow drugs, rack up huge utility bills and hide weapons.

“Our father is extremely uncomfortable with these people and their associates in his home and is fearful for his safety when he is home,” a GoFundMe page states.

Arlene and William Towns say their home was broken into by intruders after William, 76, offered to help a woman he saw living in her car

‘They spend their days living in the house as if it were their own, rummaging through drawers and cupboards, rummaging through storage items, using every appliance, dish, tool, food in the fridge and pantry.’

One of the couple’s daughters, Alicia Jordan, explained to Fox21 that her 76-year-old father was walking his dog when he came across the woman, who said she needed a place to stay for a few days while her car was being repaired.

She initially offered to do chores in exchange for accommodation before “quickly taking advantage of our father and his compromised mental state,” the GoFundMe page says.

Days soon turned into months, with no sign of the family leaving. After her boyfriend moved out, things got worse.

“He’s very confrontational, he’s threatening, he’s kind of a scary guy to be around, and very quickly our dad started to feel very unsafe in his home,” Jordan told Fox21.

She said they installed security cameras, which have since been dismantled by the alleged attackers.

Before that, the daughters say they captured uninvited guests growing mushrooms and parading weapons.

Towns allegedly invited the woman to stay at the couple's home for a few days in exchange for running some errands, but that quickly turned into months, with the woman apparently moving in with her 15-year-old son and her boyfriend.

“We have a basement full of boxes of our childhood memories and our family photos are on the walls,” Jordan told Fox21.

“They just go through drawers and closets and cupboards, and we hear them going through boxes in the basement.”

The situation is worsening William Towns’ dementia, but police say there is little they can do since the family were invited into the home.

“We feel so helpless, and each day that passes and each new failed attempt to ask authorities for help leaves us less and less confident in the system’s ability to keep our community safe,” the GoFundMe page stated.

The Colorado Springs Police Department was called to the residence several times but was effectively powerless as they were denied entry by the would-be intruders.

Police said the eviction will likely have to come from the Sheriff’s Office and be carried out by El Paso County.

“We simply don’t know what else to do, and sitting by for months and watching while our parents are afraid to live in their homes is unbearable, unfair and absolutely unacceptable,” the GoFundMe said.

The family claims that the alleged attackers are experienced professionals who easily manipulate the situation.

“This is not their first rodeo, and they have made the most of the system and know the law is in their favor and appear to live with confidence that they will have free housing and utilities for months during this process,” they added.

The women are now raising funds for a lawyer to help start the eviction process, as their parents rely on Social Security payments.
