‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Writer Elisabeth Finch Apologizes for Lying About Cancer

On the day of the premiere of Peacock’s investigative docu-series “Anatomy of Lies” — which examines the long-running cancer scam perpetrated by former “Grey’s Anatomy” writer Elisabeth Finch — she offered something new: a full apology for her actions. In an Instagram post, she begins by writing, “I haven’t given anyone reason to believe a word I say. I lied a lot; things that so many people have been devastated by in real life. ‘I’m sorry’ seem like the smallest words compared to what I did, but they are the truest.”

Finch continues to write this years later, since spring 2022 stories in The Ankler and Vanity Fair exposed her many lies — and revealed that she was a con artist who got her job on “Grey’s Anatomy” after lying about having chondrosarcoma, a rare cancer – she has “received mental health treatment for almost three years and I work hard every day to sustain a life where the truth matters more than anything: the truth is that I married a woman with whom I fell deeply, truly in love.” passionate love.” She then says that she fell in love with Jennifer Beyer, a woman she met while they were both undergoing treatment at a mental health center in Arizona, concluding: “The biggest mistake of my life (besides lying about cancer in the first place) place) was to say ‘yes’ to Jennifer’s proposal before being honest with her.”

“Anatomy of Lies,” directed by Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall, paints a scathing portrait of Finch. The three-part docuseries dismantles all of her lies, especially that she had cancer, a ruse that involved shaving her head and faking chemotherapy treatments and their side effects. She also lied about being sexually harassed by a director of “The Vampire Diaries” she wrote about, cleaning up the remains of a friend who had been murdered in the 2018 Tree of Life massacre and who had been abused by her brother . Beyer, his now ex-wife, was on the Peacock docu-series, as were two of his oldest children.

In VarietyIn the interview with the directors of the documentary series published today, Peretz said: “We hear snippets of her contacting people who are still asking about jobs. We heard she has something in the works about her life.”

Maybe this post is trying to lead to that. Finch ends with this: “The truth is, there is no excuse, no justification – nothing will ever make my lies to anyone any good. Nothing erases the trauma I caused – the fear, the pain, the anger, the tears, time. And nothing matters more to me than holding myself accountable in every way. I will continue to repair whatever damage I can and make sure I am not the worst things I have done. I recognize that all of this will take time for people to believe.”
