Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party on Wednesday announced the names of candidates for the by-elections to be held in four seats – Tarari, Ramgarh, Belaganj and Imamganj assembly seats – of Bihar. The Jansuraj Party fielded retired Lieutenant General SK Singh from Tarari seat.

The announcement was made at a press conference addressed by Kishor, a political strategist-turned-activist, and the party’s acting president Manoj Bharti, a retired diplomat-turned-politician, among others. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party on Wednesday named former Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Krishna Singh as its candidate for by-poll for Tarari assembly seat in Bihar.

Kishor revealed that the fledgling party would nominate its candidates for three other seats, where polls will be held next month, within a few days, while also stating that the candidature of Lt. Gen. Sinha, “the only deputy chief of the General Staff of the Bihar Army besides late SK Sinha”, was a source of pride for Tarari, who became “synonymous with illegal sand mining and other mafias”.

Notably, a bypoll was required for the fall of the Bhojpur district seat following the Lok Sabha election of Sudama Prasad, a CPI(ML) leader whose party is part of INDIA’s opposition bloc.
