Canada Soccer announces CANWNT roster and interim coaching staff for upcoming October friendly

Canada Soccer today announced a 21-player squad that will face defending FIFA Women’s World Cup™ champions Spain in the October window. The match is scheduled for Friday, October 25th at 10pm local time (4pm ET / 1pm PT) at the Estadio Francisco de la Hera.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two nations, with the most recent meeting taking place at the Arnold Clark Cup in February 2022, where Canada lost 0-1 in Wolverhampton, England. Prior to that match, the two teams played out a 0-0 draw in May 2019 in Logroño, Spain, and Spain secured a 1-0 victory in March 2017 in São João da Venda, Portugal.

CANWNT SQUADRON

Canada’s three goalkeepers for the match are Sabrina D’Angelo from Aston Villa WFC, Lysianne Proulx of Juventus FC, and Kailen Sheridan from the San Diego Wave FC.

The defenders selected for this window are Kadeisha Buchanan from Chelsea FC, Gabrielle Carle of the Spirit of Washington, Vanessa Gilles of FCF Olympique Lyonnais, Ashley Lawrence from Chelsea FC, Pink Jade from Harvard University, and Shelina Zadorsky from West Ham United FC.

Entering midfield are Simi Awujo of Manchester United FC, Jessie Fleming from Portland Thorns FC, Julia Grosso of the Chicago Red Stars, Emma Regan by HB Køge, and olivia smith from Liverpool FC.

Completing the squad are the attackers Janine Beckie from Racing Louisville FC, Jordyn Huitema from Seattle Reign FC, Cloé Lacasse of the Utah Royals FC, Adriana Leon from Aston Villa WFC, Nichelle Prince of the Kansas City chain, Deane Rosa of Leicester City FC, and Evelyne Viens from AS Roma.

Quinn from Seattle Reign FC, Sydney Collins of NC Courage, and Jayde Riviere of Manchester United FC were unavailable for selection due to injury.

INTERNAL COACHING TEAM

An interim technical committee was formed for the October window. Returning coaches Andy Spence, Jen Herstand Neil Madeira will be accompanied by additional personnel who will provide support to the team specifically during the preparation camp and the match against Spain.

Katelyn collarWhitecap FC Girls Elite coach, joins the team as interim assistant coach; Maryse Bard-Martel joins the team as interim performance analyst; and Diana Mathesona former CANWNT legend and founder of the Northern Super League, joins the team in an interim role supporting the team, providing leadership and serving as a resource to the team and players.

This interim coaching staff will support the team collectively during the October window.
