Eddie Howe will consider replacing Ten Hag at Man Utd as Newcastle stance on brutal exit emerges

Eddie Howe will seriously consider joining Manchester United if an approach is made, although TEAMtalk understands Newcastle do not expect to lose their manager in what would be a crippling exit.

Newcastle are still in the early years of their new era as the world’s richest club. The Saudi Arabia-based owners are confident they will take the club to the top of English football and make it a dominant force in European football.

One of the main things Newcastle’s owners wanted was to sign a manager who would be at the club for many years and Eddie Howe was chosen as that man in November 2021. The board stated they wanted him to be “our version of Sir Alex Ferguson”. and enjoy a long tenure at St. James’ Park.

The Magpies have faced a challenge in achieving that goal recently, with several clubs eyeing their manager as well as the FA. English football’s governing body assessed Howe to become England’s new manager before appointing Thomas Tuchel.

However, Howe’s wages were considered excessive by the FA and the financial factor ended up excluding him from contention.

The England role is something Howe would be extremely interested in, but Newcastle can breathe easier knowing that role is filled until the summer of 2026.

However, Newcastle cannot afford to be complacent, with another prominent position set to involve Howe.

Man Utd eyeing Eddie Howe

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Howe’s situation amid speculation they will release Erik ten Hag at some point in the season.

Sources tell us that Man Utd’s next two games – against Brentford in the Premier League and Fenerbahçe in the Europa League – could be decisive in determining whether Ten Hag is sacked.

Furthermore, with Man Utd missing out on Tuchel, we have been told that Howe is now one of two managers the Red Devils are keeping an eye on. The other is Graham Potter, who would be much easier to sign as he is currently single.

Things have not been entirely smooth sailing for Howe at Newcastle, who has faced troubled relationships at the club, particularly with director of football Paul Mitchell.

However, sources said the pair now have a solid, professional relationship and that this is not seen as a major problem behind the scenes.

The former Bournemouth manager was upset that Newcastle allowed Dan Ashworth to leave for Manchester United.

Howe and Ashworth have a very strong relationship and this is seen as a source of concern for Newcastle should Man Utd decide to make a move. Ashworth is Man Utd’s sporting director and would have a major say in the appointment of a successor to Lt Hag.

As things stand, Ten Hag remains in charge at Old Trafford but is under close scrutiny and options are being assessed.

Newcastle sources are not too worried and believe Howe will be there until at least the end of the season.

But if there is an attempt from the red side of Manchester, Howe will seriously consider the approach.
