Solving the music box puzzle

There are many puzzles to solve in the world of Silent Hill 2 Redo. One of the most interesting item locations you will find in the game is the Lakeview Hotel.

Collectible puzzles and other discoveries await you here, aiding in the completion of the Konami title. To solve this puzzle and unlock a crucial key to the game’s progression, James Sunderland must locate three distinct figures to place in a music box.

Each difficulty level will have different variations on how to solve the puzzle, but finding the pictures is crucial in every difficulty. This is a guide on how to open the music box in Silent Hill 2.

Finding the figurines at the Lakeview Hotel in Silent Hill 2

One of the first steps to start thinking about solving music box puzzles in Silent Hill 2 is finding the figurines scattered around the Lakeview Hotel; there are three in total.

The first figurine you will need to collect is Snow White, which can be found on the second floor of the hotel, specifically in room 201. To find the Cinderella figurine, you will need to go to room 107 on the first floor, then exit to the garden .

Once you’re in the garden, head towards a destroyed gazebo, where you’ll find the fireplace key on the ground. Now that you have the fireplace key, go to the third floor of the hotel, go to the conference room and open the fireplace to find the second figurine, Cinderella. Finally, locate the Little Mermaid figurine on the flooded basement floor of the hotel, specifically in the kitchen area.

How to open the music box in Silent Hill 2?

Now that you have all the necessary figurines, go to the Lakeview Hotel lobby on the first floor and start solving the music box puzzle. That Silent Hill 2 Puzzle has a different solution for each difficulty level.

The first step involves placing each figure in one of three slots: Snow White in the bottom left, The Little Mermaid in the top center, and Cinderella in the middle right. Once you have them in, you will need to adjust the dials to match the correct sequence before proceeding to the next step.

Align the discs as shown in the following image:

Once lined up correctly, you can press the button and the puzzle will move to the bottom of the music box. At this point, you will need to turn three keys a specific number of times to solve the puzzle and unlock the reward key.

Each difficulty level requires you to turn the keys a different number of times. For light difficulty, rotate the left key seven times, the middle key twice, and the right key once, in that specific order.

For normal difficulty, rotate the left key seven times, the middle key five times, and the right key once. Finally, for hard difficulty, turn each key once, starting from the left and working your way to the right.

Once you do this, you will automatically unlock the hotel’s third floor key, allowing you to continue the story of Silent Hill 2.
