Delaware fugitive captured by police in Pennsylvania after falling from ceiling

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A man wanted for probation violations in Pennsylvania and Delaware was arrested today after hitting the ceiling during an arrest attempt, according to the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.

David Smith, 45, formerly of McKees Rocks and now a Delaware resident, has been on the run since August after a warrant was issued for violating probation related to a February guilty plea to gun and drug charges. Smith also faced an active arrest warrant in Delaware for a separate probation violation.

Detectives with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office located Smith at a residence on Sorento Street earlier today. A woman at the residence initially denied knowing Smith’s whereabouts. During the search, detectives discovered a panel leading to the attic in a second-floor closet and suspected Smith was hiding there.

While trying to access the attic, detectives saw a foot break through the ceiling before quickly retreating. After ordering Smith to surrender, he fell from the ceiling into a nearby room. Smith was immediately taken into custody without further incident.

Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced the arrest, which ends Smith’s two-month stint as a fugitive.
