Futuristic mansion in North Texas inspired by the movie ‘Tron’ is listed for $3.69 million

Dallas resident Michael Shaun Jackson took the meaning of “custom” to a new level when he built his 4,853-square-foot home in 2018. There’s the spaceship-inspired kitchen, for example, and the parking-lot living room from Ferrari. The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom home is unlike anything you’ve ever seen — and that’s the whole point.

“When people see things like that, they spin,” Jackson said. The news in 2022, when the property was put up for sale for the first time; the house is back on the market. “It makes them look beyond the limited thinking and vision they had before and it starts to expand their minds.”

Jackson is the founder of Acquiesce Design, a design, construction and development firm (which built the house) and an all-around creative. He designed the house for himself, citing Russian architecture and the film Tron: Legacy as inspiration. He applied his creativity to every facet of the house, including the interior design; much of the furniture is custom, and Jackson even created art specifically for these spaces.

5025 Wateka Drive is located in Greenway Village, a neighborhood near the intersection of Inwood Road and University Boulevard. Although the home’s color palette is mainly made up of shades of black, white and gray, don’t expect simplicity. The floors are made of Italian porcelain and the chandeliers are made of Murano glass. The living room has a two-story ceiling and a floating staircase that gives access to the upper floor. A few steps from the living room you will see one of the most notable features of the house: the Ferrari parking lot. A large window between the living room and the garage makes a car from Jackson’s collection the focal point of the room—it’s visible from the living room sofa.

A futuristic fireplace separates the living room from the dining room and kitchen. On the other side of the fireplace wall, Fendi dining chairs are grouped around a table and a black kitchen – the one inspired by a spaceship from the Tron film – anchors the other side of the room. Sliding glass doors throughout the dining room and kitchen can be opened and recessed into the walls to create a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.

A guest suite and office are the two remaining rooms on the home’s first level. Upstairs, the master suite is in its own wing. You will find a huge bathroom with two sinks, a separate bathtub and shower, and a walk-in closet. The master bedroom is complete with a fireplace and a modest (modest for this house, at least) bar area. In addition to another suite bedroom, the second floor has a living room. Designed by Jackson with a 1980s look, the walls are covered in tufted turquoise velvet, while zebra carpet runs beneath your feet.

The home first went up for sale in 2022, but went off the market for about two years before recently returning. During the off-market period, Jackson made some updates. Outdoor spaces now feature a Tulum-inspired look with new furniture and decor. The master bedroom has been renovated with custom Ferrari-inspired bedding designed by Jackson. He also added home security features, including a generator.

Wondering why Jackson would sell something so personal and personalized? “I like change (and I’m) ready for a new adventure,” he says, noting that he plans to move to Miami.

The home is listed for $3,690,000 by Lisa Besserer and Pogir of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty. Jackson prefers that the furniture and art stay with the house, at an additional cost. If a buyer’s car collection doesn’t have a stylish model to sit in the living room window frame, Jackson will offer you one of his two Ferraris if you add about half a million more to your offer.

As for his hope to bring a different perspective, especially when it comes to how people live, Jackson points to four new homes on his street. His assessment of Dallas’ contemporary architecture scene is that it has “upped its game.”

“My goal was to inspire others to rethink home design to bring it into the future, and it seems to have really worked.”
