‘Even after a natural disaster, they don’t stop’

One Redditor was shocked to find an exploratory property rental listing posted just days after Hurricane Helene hit the state of Florida.

The post contained a message from the owner, who explained that because of the hurricane, they are no longer listing their home in Terra Ceia as a vacation rental on Airbnb. As a result, they were looking for a Florida resident in need of shelter to rent.

The listing price of $4,500 per month is certainly steep for someone who may already be struggling financially after the big storm. It’s also easy to dispute the homeowner’s claim that three-bedroom, two-bathroom homes rent for “$6,000 to $13,000” per month in that particular area, as online searches indicate a range of $2,000 to $13,000. $5,500. Even though there are some in the range listed, that range is not an accurate representation.

While the home may be nice and the person listing it may not be able to afford to suffer a large loss, framing the listing as an act of “helping someone” – while listing the highest value in the market and pretends it is a very – seemed false to many Redditors.

“Even after a natural disaster, they don’t stop,” wrote the Redditor who shared the post.

Redditors agreed that the timing of the post was not only insensitive to Floridians who lost their homes, but also false.

“I can’t imagine being so greedy when so many people need shelter – many of whom will already face financial hardship,” one user responded.

“Pretending like they’re doing people a favor is disgusting,” wrote another Redditor. “They’re only offering rentals because they know tourists won’t book an Airbnb in a flooded area for a while.”

If they don’t take advantage of people in difficult situations, some landlords have also prevented tenants from implementing environmentally friendly and money-saving upgrades to their homes.

Redditors expressed their frustration when homeowners refused to let them hang their clothes on lines, tend to a garden, or recycle items properly.

Despite these challenges, renters can still work with their landlords to review their bylaws and make environmentally friendly lifestyle changes.

Redditors continued to discuss the Florida owner’s greedy and reckless post.

“Wow, out of their hearts, they are kindly offering a place to live during a natural disaster for just $4,500 a month,” one user wrote.
