NJ School District Announces Last-Minute Half Day After Cutting 93 Jobs

An email was sent at 7:17 a.m. Thursday announcing an unexpected half day at the East Orange School District “due to unforeseen circumstances,” parents said.

The closure came the morning after a heated five-hour board of education meeting in which 93 teaching and training positions were cut.

School officials did not immediately respond to questions about the reason for the noon. It was unclear whether a large number of teachers were sick.
