The sophisticated remake of Konami and Bloober Team’s survival horror classic Silent Hill 2 appears to be a huge success, with the new game selling over a million copies in less than a week. Finally, fans have some good news after years of less-than-great sequels and mismanagement of the franchise.

Silent Hill 2 was released on October 6th through an early access pre-order period on PS5 and PC. Many, myself included, were nervous about the Bloober-developed remake of the beloved and critically acclaimed Silent Hill 2first released for the PlayStation 2 in 2001. However, it turned out to be a fantastic update that respects the original game and makes (mostly) smart changes to modernize it. And it seems like at least 999,999 other people agree with me.

On October 16, Konami tweeted that the Silent Hill 2 the remake sold more than 1 million copies. According to the tweet, this data is from October 11th, just five days later Silent Hill 2 went on sale through early access pre-orders. It’s also just three days after it was released to everyone else on October 8th. In other words, it didn’t take long for this new horror remake to hit the one million copies sold mark.

In truth, according to Daniel Ahmaddirector of research and insights at Niko Partners, this is much, much faster than the original Silent Hill 2. That 2001 PS2 game took a month to reach one million. This is likely to mean Silent Hill 2The remake is the fastest-selling game in the long-running horror franchise.

Last year, Konami Silent Hill: Ascensiona strange narrative broadcast live -was being destroyed by fans and critics for being a boring and bad experience. Before that, Konami did little with the franchise besides some silent Hill– themed slots and 2012 Downpourthe last main entry in the series that received average reviews. And now, the Silent Hill 2 the remake helped turn things around for the struggling franchise. The question is: will Konami be able to keep up the pace?
