Three injured in gas explosion in Benin

Three persons sustained injuries of varying degrees in an explosion at the NIPCO filling station in Eyean community on the Benin-Auchi road, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.

DAILY POST reports that the incident happened on Thursday morning at the NIPCO petrol station when an Audi CNG vehicle was being fueled.

It was also found that the explosion was the result of alleged fake conversion kits and low-quality cylinders used in the installation and conversion of the fuel into gas.

A 25-second viral video of the incident showed a vehicle damaged after the explosion.

A voice was heard saying that there was a gas explosion at the NIPCO gas station.

The voice added that the driver of the vehicle was at the gas station to refuel when the explosion occurred.

He further added that the driver of the car and the technician who installed the CNG kits in the vehicle went to the filling station to test the effectiveness of the installation when the explosion occurred.

The male voice claimed that three people, including a station cleaner, a pump attendant and another, suffered injuries of varying degrees and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

It was also found that the technician presented himself to the police and led a team of police officers to the scene of the accident.

A witness who spoke to journalists, however, attributed the explosion to the fake gas cylinder used in the vehicle during the conversion of fuel into gas.

According to him, if you see the gas cylinder used in the conversion, it is different from the one the CNG is using
