Man demands window seat and is shocked by what he does when passenger doesn’t change

A passenger on a flight was shocked by what his colleague decided to do when he refused to change seats.

A Reddit user with the handle u/liberty340 shared a photo of an airplane window with the curtain closed on the social media platform, explaining to people on the r/mildlyinfuriating subreddit what had happened.

In the post, which received more than 66,000 upvotes and thousands of comments, the original poster (OP) said: “(The) guy sitting next to me on the plane wants to change seats (I was in a window seat). refused, he reached over my shoulder and closed the window.”

The OP said that when they opened the window, the passenger next to them asked them to close it because he wanted to take a nap. When the OP ignored him, he called the flight attendant for help, something the Redditor called a “move change.”

“He ended up falling asleep but I’m still upset about it,” they wrote.

Commenting on the incident, national etiquette expert Diane Gottsman said News week: “Reaching for someone to close the curtain is still an invasion of personal space. Instead of taking responsibility for closing the curtain, he should have asked if they would mind closing the curtain because the sun was in their eyes or whatever whatever. reason.

“It seems more like an act of aggression than a simple gesture, given the fact (the OP) doesn’t want to change seats. Not to mention the fact that someone is stepping over someone else’s body.”

She added: “He told them he would like to take a nap and that it would have been courteous of them to turn on the light to read or please another passenger if it was reasonable. Emotions on both sides were in this situation. “

In an interview with Simple Flying, sleep expert James Smith said that a window seat might be the best place to get some sleep during a flight because you’ll have a wall to rest your head on as well as a wall to rest your head on. You have to get up when other people in line need to use the bathroom.

Among the thousands of responses to the Reddit post were people sharing similar difficult experiences with other passengers.

User u/OopsAllLegs commented: “One time a guy asked to switch with me because I was in the aisle seat. I’m 6’4” and I need to stretch my legs every now and then or my knees will start to hurt. I told him firmly that No, I specifically paid for this seat and it was significantly taller than him. He insisted that I needed to move.

“In my best angry dad voice, I responded, ‘Is that what we’re going to do? Start shit before our 4 hour flight, because if that’s the case, it’s going to be a weird flight.’ He dropped it and didn’t look my way for the rest of the flight.”

Others seemed equally frustrated with the Redditor’s situation, with u/Sea-Poetry-950 writing: “What bothers me is that he reached for your shoulder?? Dude, don’t even go there.”

u/Autumnwood simply said, “Oh, guys. If he wanted a window seat, he should have reserved one.”

u/Some-Statement7360 said: “I’d keep opening it, he might find a different seat.”

“I would have put it back while looking at him with a ‘balls in your court’ expression,” said Initial-Wrongdoer938.
