The Bloober team is ready for more Silent Hill remakes

Or…maybe a whole new game?

As we’ve established time and time again, remasters and remakes of classic games and franchises have been “in” recently, as many developers and publishers are trying to cash in on the “wave of nostalgia” that many have. They WANT to play all-time classic titles on modern platforms, especially since they can’t get them anywhere else. Thus, there is demand for them, as long as they are of quality. With the Silent Hill 2 remake that Bloober Team did, many weren’t sure if the game would hold up, even with the visual overhaul and improved gameplay elements the team added.

However, not only did it do well, it has sold over a million units, which is impressive for a remake of a game that came out in the PS2 era and hasn’t been surpassed since. Naturally, this raises all kinds of questions about what might come next for not only the franchise, but the Bloober team as well. Speaking to IGN, Wojciech Piejko, director and designer at Bloober Team, noted that he and the team would be more than willing to remake another entry in the series or, perhaps, make an entirely new entry:

“I think we are always open. If we like the opportunity, we will take it. There are opportunities that you should take advantage of. Silent Hill 2you can remake the legend. So yes, I believe anything is possible.”

While it’s nice to know that “anything is possible,” if you asked longtime fans of the franchise what they’d like you to do next, they’d more than likely ask to stay away from everything that came in the second entry. See, the franchise hasn’t had the best track record. In fact, despite reaching legendary levels with just its second title, every other entry in the series has been either mixed in reception or considered terrible. Some of the games don’t even go to the starting spot, which has made people wonder why it was called that.

We know that Konami wants to reboot/remake things, as they have made a number of titles on multiple platforms, including the new remake, to try and get people interested in it. However, like the series itself, reception was quite mixed.

So, if the Bloober team went the creative route and just did something new, this could be the shot in the arm that the horror franchise needs to truly get back on its feet, rather than just revisiting the past.
