Free robotics courses offered at the Tazewell County Career and Technical Center

TAZEWELL, Va. (WVVA) – The Tazewell County Career and Technical Center is once again offering free robotics certification courses for adults.

Three different groups or classes will be taught from October to March. The classes will teach enrollees how to learn and excel in automation that is used in many factories that rely on robots for production.

To participate in classes, you must obtain OSHA 10 certification and the cost to complete the course may be refunded if you complete it successfully. Ryan Lewis, the robotics instructor for the class, says the cost of certification is between $50 and $60.

He adds that this is a small price to pay for a potentially well-paying job.

“It’s a fantastic sector to work in. I spent 30 years working in this area. Program and install these robots and work with automation and automated equipment. These are very high paying jobs,” Lewis said. “Salaries are going up more and more every year.”

The classes are free thanks to a grant that makes this the third year the free classes have been offered, according to Lewis. Free transportation to classes is also provided by Four County Transit.

The class dates can be found below.

Cohort 11 – October 21st to December 17th (Monday to Thursday) 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm **No classes on November 1st, 4th, 5th, 27th, 28th and 29th.

Cohort 12 – January 6th to February 27th (Monday to Thursday) 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm **No classes on January 20th.

Cohort 13 – March 10th to May 6th (Monday to Thursday) 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm **There will be no classes on April 18th, 21st and 22nd.
