Pioneers emerge to replace Susie O’Neill after she shocked fans by quitting her live radio show in emotional announcement

Susie O’Neill announced her surprise resignation from her Brisbane Nova morning show on Friday, and radio sources are now speculating about who will replace her.

The Olympic swimmer-turned-host, 51, told Ash, Luttsy and Susie listeners she was stepping down after 10 years – and sources picked two popular media personalities as possible replacements.

The famous person at the “top of the list” is Seven News presenter Kendall Gilding, according to Brisbane publication The Courier Mail.

It has been claimed that the 33-year-old is a strong candidate because she has successfully filled in for Susie on a number of occasions and has developed a “strong relationship” with listeners.

Radio host-turned-reality star Sam Frost, 35, has also been mooted as a potential replacement.

Frost began her media career by appearing on The Bachelorette in 2015 and later performed on Sydney 2Day FM.

She has also filled in for Susie on several occasions and her bright and bubbly personality has proven her to be a hit with listeners.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Gilding and Frost for comment.

It comes after Susie revealed she was quitting her popular breakfast show in an emotional live announcement.

‘I do this with a heavy heart, the decision was not easy. It’s hard for me to articulate exactly why I’m leaving,” Susie began.

“After turning 50 last year, I realized that I am in a completely new phase of my life. The next chapter will see me pursue other goals, both professionally and personally.’

Susie said she already had some ideas about what the future held for her and assured listeners that they would have the chance to say goodbye to her as she would remain on air for another six weeks.

‘I want to get back to the basics of the sport and get involved in the wider community. It will be an emotional last day, saying goodbye to everyone”, she said.

“Whatever this next chapter brings, my Nova family won’t be far away.”

Susie will perform her final show on Friday, November 28th.
