The story of the week on Strictly was undoubtedly Wynne Evans and Katya Jones’ awkward ‘hand incident’, after viewers last weekend saw the pro swat the opera singer’s hand away from her waist and disregard her attempt to greet.

The dancing partners spent the week defending their exchange of curves during last Saturday night’s live show.

On Monday, the pair appeared together on Strictly’s It Takes Two, where Katya declared that Wynne was ‘portrayed as someone he’s not’ as they insisted the ‘wandering hand’ incident was a silly joke .

Clinging to his arm, she said: ‘The idea that this made me uncomfortable or offended in any way is utter nonsense, and anyone in doubt, you are mistaken. So I hope this is the end and you continue to make me smile.

However, Wynne admitted that he watched footage of the incident and confessed, “I can see how people might have misinterpreted it.”

Hours after the broadcast, neither Katya nor Wynne smiled as they walked to their training studio in Wales ahead of tonight’s rehearsals.

The controversy has left the pair at serious risk of being booted from Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday’s results show, according to bookies.

Opera singer Wynne, 52, – who once pioneered the Glitterball Trophy – is just 5/1 to be dropped from the competition this week, after being 25/1 in the same market last week.
