There was a mixed atmosphere at the San Siro during tonight’s Serie A match against Udinese as, although tickets were almost sold out, Milan’s ultras staged a silent protest.

The Rossoneri returned to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza after the international break and the 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina.

Fans flocked to the stadium despite the worst start to a Serie A season in a decade, with 71,214 in attendance.

However, the atmosphere was much calmer than usual because the Curva Sud ultras decided to sit quietly and not shout.

This was part of a wider protest against the investigation that saw several of its members arrested and others banned from the stands.

The investigation currently covers Milan and Inter ultras, with a series of interviews after players and coaches have had contact with some of those arrested.

Clubs are being urged to cut ties with Curva fans, particularly those who use their presence in the stands to work with organized crime and carry out lucrative commercial practices.
