It’s an event for ghost hunters, young and old.

The Industry Sheriff’s Youth Activities League hosted the first day, Friday, October 18, of the 4th annual Terror Trail and Trunk-or-Treat festival at the Industry Hills Expo Center.

It features two nights of what organizers said would be “bone-chilling scares on the Trail of Terror: Hell’s Gate,” which has become a Halloween favorite.

For those looking for a less exciting experience, the Expo Center was hosting a family-friendly Trunk-or-Treat festival, with food vendors, a climbing wall, and other family-friendly activities.

When promoting their Halloween extravaganza, organizers offered a little context about the so-called Legend of Hell’s Gate.

“At the bottom of Turnbull Canyon, facing the City of Industry, lies the infamous Hell’s Gate. Plagued by reports of satanic worship, cult gatherings and the mysterious remains of ‘unbaptized babies,’ Hell’s Gate has long been isolated from the outside world,” organizers said. “Locals often report strange chants coming from the gated property once a month during the quarter of the moon, a time known for its ritualistic significance. Believers say that during the half moon, a passage opens between the world of the living and the underworld, creating a gate to hell.”

The organizers’ goal is to offer a chance for “brave souls to experience the mystery and see if the scary rumors are true.”

Tickets will be available for purchase at the Expo Center location for $5 per person. All ticket proceeds benefit Industry Sheriff’s YAL programs, which are offered free of charge to attendees.

The Industry Sheriff’s Station Youth Activities League program is a non-profit organization that works in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The program is supported by Cidade da Indústria and by donations from local businesses and private citizens.

YAL’s after-school programs run year-round, reaching more than 2,000 children each year.

A second day of Halloween events takes place from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Industry Hills Expo Center, 16200 Temple Ave., City of Industry.
