  • On this day, wake up in the morning and participate in Sargi as per family tradition. After bathing and performing rituals, take the vow of fasting.
  • This fast is observed Nirjala, i.e. without consuming water, throughout the day. In the evening, sit near the Tulsi factory, light a lamp and read the story of Karwa Chauth.
  • Before the moon rises, prepare a plate and place some rice or chiwda (flattened rice) in a clay karwa, adding a few coins as an offering.
  • Also, keep a plate ready with shringar items. After the moon rises, start seeing and worshiping it.
  • Perform tilak on all the deities and offer fruits, flowers and sweets. Include all shringar items in worship and apply tilak.
  • Now, offer arghya to the moon, light a lamp in a sieve and see the moon. Look at your husband’s face through the sieve and then break the fast by drinking the water he offered.
  • Seek the blessings of all the elderly people in your home. Give the shringar items used in worship and the karwa to your mother-in-law or another married woman.

On this day, fasting women only break their fast after seeing the moon at night. According to belief, just like Vat Savitri Vrat, observing the Karwa Chauth fast also bestows long life on husbands and ensures a happy married life.
