Man arrested after pedestrian taken to hospital following hit-and-run in Dublin

A man has been arrested after a pedestrian was rushed to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ following a hit and run incident in Dublin on Sunday afternoon.

An investigation is underway following the road collision which occurred on Cloverhill Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, on Sunday 20 October 2024.

On Monday morning, police confirmed that a 20-year-old man was arrested last night (Sunday, October 20) and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a police station in south of Dublin.

The collision involving a male pedestrian and a van occurred at approximately 1:45 pm, and the van did not remain at the scene after the incident.

The 20-year-old male pedestrian was taken to hospital by emergency services for treatment of serious injuries.

After technical inspection of the site, the road has now been reopened to traffic.

Gardaí said in a statement: ‘Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

“They are also seeking dashcam footage, including videos of people who were traveling in the area at the time, to help with their investigation.
