Seven TV presenters caught speeding | Celebrity News | Showbiz and TV

Noel Radford, famous for his appearance on 22 Kids and Counting, was said to have exceeded 40mph in his Porsche at Bay Gateway, Morecambe, last year.

In addition to the speeding charge, Noel, of South Road, Morecambe, was also charged with failing to provide information relating to the identity of the driver of the Porsche. He allegedly violated the 40 mph speed limit in December.

The Channel 5 star was due to appear in court days after posting on Instagram about her family’s Florida holiday.

After he failed to appear, the court heard that Noel had “left the jurisdiction” and the trial was adjourned until October 21.

Ahead of Noel’s court case today, Express.co.uk looked at seven surprising TV presenters who were caught driving faster than they should have.

Jeremy Clarkson

Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson found himself in trouble after receiving a speeding fine in 2014.

Her first fine in 30 years, the Clarkson’s Farm star, 64, was photographed on radar while driving too fast on a 260-mile journey from Whitby, North Yorkshire, to London.

Jeremy revealed he was traveling “80-something” in a 60 mph zone. He brushed off the incident, however, saying “it was nothing catastrophic, no one died.”

The Grand Tour star was keen to take part in a speed awareness course, however his high speed stopped him and he instead had points awarded on his licence.

Nick Knowles

In June 2019, Nick Knowles was banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding and using his cell phone behind the wheel. The DIY SOS presenter was also fined more than £1,300 by Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court.

He later referred to the driving ban as “a wake-up call.” The court was told the Strictly Come Dancing star, 62, was clocked at 80mph in his Range Rover when he was arrested by police mobile radar on the A417 Brockworth bypass.

Nick explained to the court that he avoided using his car’s hands-free kit due to a “dodgy power cord”.

The Who Dares Wins presenter found himself in a difficult situation as accumulated penalty points led to a driving ban. With six points already tarnishing his driving licence, the additional six points from his recent misstep reached the threshold for a driving suspension.

The court’s presiding judge, Andrew Hill, addressed Nick, stating: “We take into account that you have shown remorse. We will disqualify you from driving today and you will be disqualified from driving for six months. driving any motor vehicle in any public place.”

Nick cheekily joked: “I can drive home, right?” But when severely corrected, he quickly recanted: “I’m joking.”

For his mistake, the presenter received a double fine of £666 for speeding and another £666 for using his mobile phone while driving. He was also given a £66 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.

Reflecting on his experience, the BBC personality commented: “For me, this was a wake-up call and putting my phone in the boot of the car now takes away the temptation. The six-month ban was appropriate because to give anything else would be to be giving special privilege.”

Piers Morgan

Piers Morgan revealed he was caught speeding in 2020. The former Good Morning Britain presenter let fans know on social media about his run-in with police on his way to a Paddy Power golf event.

He acknowledged his mistake on Twitter and praised authorities for their “polite” and “respectful” conduct during the incident.

The controversial broadcaster managed to avoid fines and penalties by taking part in a speed awareness course.

Typically available to first-time offenders or those who have not committed a similar offense in the previous three years, the course targets less serious offenses.

He wrote at the time: “I just completed an online speed awareness course… on Zoom.”

James May

Two years after his colleague and friend Jeremy Clarkson was caught for speeding, James May found himself in a similar situation.

The former Top Gear presenter, 61, told his followers he was “caught” shortly after buying a 599cc Honda in Chiswick. James was caught traveling faster than the 30mph limit on a section of the North Circular less than half a mile from the dealership.

Coleen Nolan

In 2023, Coleen Nolan received a hefty fine of almost £1,000 and six penalty points on her license for speeding.

The 59-year-old was caught exceeding the 30mph speed limit on Preston New Road in Blackpool, Lancs, on July 8.

Initially pleading not guilty, Nolan changed his plea to guilty on the day of trial at Preston Magistrates’ Courts on 21 July.

In addition to the £900 fine and penalty points, she was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £360 to fund victim services and £150 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Paddy McGuinness

Paddy McGuinness managed to avoid being prosecuted for a speeding offense which could have seen him banned from driving.

The Take Me Out presenter, 51, was caught driving his Land Rover at 53mph in a 40mph zone in Chorlton, Manchester, in August 2016.

At the time, he did not provide information regarding the identification of a driver when caught speeding.

Both charges could have led to a mandatory ban, as speeding carries six penalty points. A further six points for failing to provide driver identification would take him to a total of 12 points and a driving ban.

However, after seeking legal advice from famous lawyer Mr Freeman, nicknamed Mr Loophole, he decided to withdraw his appeal and proceed to trial.

Mr Freeman stated that his client, who was living in Prestbury, Cheshire, at the time, had moved house three times in two years and had received neither a notice of intent to prosecute nor a reminder.

He only became aware of the case after receiving a Single Justice Procedure Notice (SJPN) and requesting a photo of the car at high speed, which he claimed he never received.

Mr Freeman then highlighted the procedural errors made by the CPS with the evidence in the case. The court heard that Greater Manchester Police took the lead in prosecuting and failed to provide documents, and the court dismissed the case.

Chris Evans

Radio DJ and TV presenter Chris Evans shared his frustrations about commuting on the Virgin Radio Breakfast Show in 2021.

The 58-year-old man confessed that he was caught exceeding the speed limit in the early hours of the morning, but he was not sure how “speed” he was driving at that time.

This followed an earlier admission that he had been caught speeding in a 20mph zone earlier that year. Speaking about the incident, Chris expressed his annoyance at the frequent changes to speed limits on a 30-mile journey.

“We need to talk about speed cameras,” Chris told listeners. “I got caught again for speeding to work.”

“I don’t know how many miles per hour and I thought I was doing maybe 23 or 24 mph in a new 20 mph zone.”

Chris continued: “Lambeth Bridge was closed and it was a new 20 (mph) zone and I wasn’t used to it. Listen, I’m guilty as charged. There’s no doubt about it. It happened on the way to work on the M4 on the A4 passing via the viaduct.

“Maybe my bottle rolled off the passenger seat and sent me into a panic,” the radio host speculated. Maybe I was distracted. I don’t know how fast I was going. We’ll find out.”

He continued: “I just don’t do that (speeding), otherwise you would lose your license straight away. I’ve been to a number of speed awareness courses.”

Chris expressed his desire to do “the right thing” but lamented that this “is becoming increasingly impossible.” He warned: “You can easily lose your driver’s license on a 32 mph journey and have no intention of doing anything wrong.”
