Other 90 Day Fiance The spinoff episode has come and gone, and for the second time in recent memory of the fall TV season, I’m genuinely shocked by something I saw in a storyline. Season 7 of Before 90 days remains fun despite boasting a pretty unlikeable cast, and now I’m giving it a little more credit for showing a curious family dynamic that isn’t often seen on television in general, and not in this TLC series.

Brian Muniz and IngridThe storyline has been a mix of good and bad moments, and a bedroom argument may have been the final nail in the coffin for them as a functioning couple. This set the stage for a moment I certainly wasn’t expecting – no pun intended – and I feel less hesitant to actually enjoy it after giving it some thought.

Brian called his sister to detail his sexual problems with Ingrid

As we heard in the episode, Brian and Ingrid’s attempts to have sex were derailed when she discovered he didn’t have a condom on hand. In an attempt to salvage the situation after being unprepared, he offered to perform oral sex on her but was firmly rebuffed.

Ingrid later said, off camera, that she thought Brian was too desperate for sex, which turned her off about the whole situation. They argued about it and the night ended with them going their separate ways.

With no one to talk to in Brazil the next day Brian called his older sister Reese. He started the phone call by saying that he and his sister were close, but I don’t think he was prepared for the extent of what that meant. He detailed their entire bedroom encounter the night before, sparing no extraneous facts, and she didn’t even blink.

In fact, she suggested that perhaps Ingrid thought his second offer was even more intimate than the sexual relationship itself, and that was why he was rejected. Even though this didn’t match Ingrid’s reasoning, Reese helped put her brother at ease and at least calm him down after it seemed like he was about to end the relationship.

It’s rare to see close relationships between brothers and sisters on television, especially at this level

I’ll be the first to admit that I was initially shocked because I can’t imagine discussing sex with any of my sisters. But I appreciate 90 Day Fiance highlighting a close sibling dynamic rarely seen on TV, scripted or unscripted. This is especially true after my desire to see more Rayne FernándezThe story of after learning about his belief in the paranormal turned out to be much more disturbing than I imagined.

A 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days cast member was reportedly not a guest at the Tell-All. Why will I be disappointed if they don’t actually show up

I’m sad they weren’t on the tour.

It reminds me of what I felt when, after several seasons, we finally saw Jasmine Pineda go out with your children. We see so many of these couples stuck in relationships that can seem as fake as a cartoon, so it’s always nice to see authentic family moments between those whose care for each other is obvious to the audience.

I feel like Brian is getting a bit of a vile edit on Before 90 days Season 7, so it was really nice to also remember that he’s a normal human being. Many 90 Day couples have broken up over the years, and fans are quick to paint one as the other’s villain. Sometimes it’s justified, but most of the time it’s just two incompatible people.

Without this scene, a 90 Day Fiance fan may have supported Ingrid’s initial assessment that Brian is some kind of sex addict. But after watching him talk to his sister, I think I’m more on the side of the fact that Brian felt like he was being rejected because of his disability, which was a fear he had before the trip even began. I may not be as close to my sisters as Brian is to his, but I’m so happy and shocked that we got that scene.
