Damian Priest can’t believe he was WWE World Heavyweight Champion

WWE RAW Superstar Damian Priest is still shocked that the promotion trusted him enough to make him World Heavyweight Champion this year.

Priest won gold by cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania 40, ending Drew McIntyre’s brief World Championship reign.

Speaking with Buster on Q102 Philly, Priest was asked what he thinks about having his name in the WWE history books as World Champion. He said:

“It’s crazy to me. It’s still one of those ‘I still can’t believe it’s real’ things. I can’t believe this actually happened. The idea that I was World Champion, that I’m in the history books, is still crazy to me. You can’t take that away. It’s just one of those, I can’t believe that happened. Forever grateful.”

“The idea that someone years from now… it’s another one of those ‘I did it, I did it’ moments. Because since I started in WWE, my idea was to ‘live forever’ because I wanted my name to live forever. I think I’m fine (laughs).

Priest’s reign would see him retain the title against McIntyre at WWE Clash At The Castle: Scotland, thanks to CM Punk’s interference.

Damian Priest’s reign ended at WWE SummerSlam 2024, where he lost the gold to GUNTHER after Priest was betrayed by Finn Balor.

Priest has not competed since defeating Balor at WWE Bad Blood on October 5th. He has since declared his intention to become world champion again.
