Firefighters fight fire in dryer in nursing home – and broken electricity cable in the field

Ellesmere Fire Station posted about the incidents on Facebook.

The first occurred at 8.54am on Sunday when firefighters were called to reports of a tumble dryer fire at Ellesmere House care home in Church Hill.

Crews wore breathing equipment and used a hose to put out the fire, which occurred in a building separate from the residents.

Crews were later called to deal with an electrical cable arcing across a field – with a cord set up to protect the area, before a power company attended to deal with the incident.

Writing on Facebook, the fire service said: “At 8.54am on Sunday we were mobilized to reports of a tumble dryer fire at Ellesmere House.

“Upon arrival, the team informed us that the fire occurred in a part of the building separate from the residents, who were safe.

“Two crew members wearing breathing apparatus were sent into the building, using a hose stream to extinguish the fire. A thermal imaging camera (TIC) was used to confirm that all residual temperatures were normal after the fire was extinguished, before the room was deemed safe to return to personnel.

“We were supported by colleagues from Wem and Oswestry stations in this incident, with positive ventilation (PPV) used by the Oswestry apparatus to clear smoke from the affected compartment.

“Then at 5.58pm Ellesmere was mobilized to reports of an electrical arc arcing in Criftins. Upon arrival we discovered that a fallen tree had snapped an electrical cable, which was arcing across a field.

“A cordon was set up to prevent access to the risk area, and Scottish Power was notified to attend.
