Petrified passengers flee as plane bridge catches fire: terrifying video

Plane passengers were left fearing for their lives after an airport boarding bridge filled with smoke after a faulty power bank caught fire, as seen in incendiary photos that set the internet ablaze.

The fire incident occurred on Sunday at Hongqiao Airport in Shanghai, China, as travelers were disembarking from flight CA2821, NewsX reported.

The aircraft landed at around 4:30 pm after flying from Tianjin.

The flyers were reportedly crossing the bridge connecting the plane to the airport gate when one of the passenger’s bags caught fire, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Passengers began to panic as smoke began to fill the enclosed space.

Fortunately, authorities were able to extinguish the fire and ventilate the area, according to airport officials, who said there were no reports of injuries following the fire.

Hongqiao Airport representatives did not provide additional details about the incident, which was caused by a passenger power bank failure.

Unfortunately, these mobile phone charges have become a scourge in the friendly skies of late, notably causing a fire on board an Air Asia flight in Thailand last winter.

Last fall, one of the incendiary devices caused a JetBlue passenger’s backpack to catch fire as he waited for his departing flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

These infernos often occur when lithium-ion batteries overheat and catch fire.

In fact, due to the flammability of the power bank, airlines only allow them to be packed in carry-on luggage, not checked luggage, for fear of causing fires in the cargo hold.
