Novak Djokovic’s wife has revealed that she caught her children “bragging” about who their father is.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion has two children with his wife Jelena – Stefan, 10, and Tara, seven.

Jelena also explained how the family made sacrifices for Djokovic to continue playing into his 30s while she addressed her future.

Djokovic and Jelena have been together for 20 years and now have two children. As they grew older, Stefan and Tara were seen in their father’s player box, and Stefan even became an enthusiastic young tennis player.

Djokovic’s children were in the stands to witness their father’s Olympic gold medal triumph earlier this summer. And the world number 4 shared many special moments with them after lifting Grand Slam trophies.

However, according to Jelena, they are still not fully aware of Djokovic’s impact. But that hasn’t stopped them from bragging about who their father is.

“They are very young, so they don’t understand many important things that he represents to people,” Djokovic’s wife told La Nacion.

“But they understand that he is a hard worker and well respected. Because they see him when he travels and he has a lot of fans and they see the attention he gets. So they understand that.”

Foundation CEO Novak Djokovic also overheard them making some interesting comments. She added: “And I can hear them saying, ‘You know who my father is.’

“It’s a kind of childish boast, but the other meaning they are learning through the foundation’s work. Because that’s what Novak wants too: for his legacy to be changing the world for children. Because he already had a dream as a child and achieved it.”

Although Stefan and Tara enjoyed watching their father compete, Djokovic began to take a step back from the tour, playing an increasingly limited schedule.

He already appears to have called time on his 2024 season after withdrawing from the Paris Masters and leaving his hopes of qualifying for the ATP Finals in serious doubt.

Earlier this year, he showed he wanted to prioritize his home life by withdrawing from the Miami Open, claiming he wanted to “balance his private and professional schedule.” But the wife of the world number 4 has now admitted she is happy to stay at home with their children so he can continue his career.

“I’m traveling less now. I’m traveling less because of the kids. There are so many tournaments and yet his career continues,” she explained.

“He is now choosing the right places to go. It’s none of my business. He will do whatever he wants for as long as he wants. I support him. And the kids love what he does and are very proud of him. In fact, if we can help you stay longer, we will.”
