The Othaya branch of Equity Bank in Nyeri County was temporarily closed following a fire last night at around 1.30am.

The fire was detected by the branch’s alarm system, prompting a quick response from security personnel, the Nyeri County Fire Department and local police.

Although the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, firefighters were able to contain the fire before it could spread to other buildings.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

In its immediate action, the Nyeri County Fire Department ensured that the situation was under control, minimizing further damage.

Following the incident, Equity Bank urged its Othaya branch customers to utilize alternative banking channels and neighboring branches to meet their needs.

“We advise our Othaya branch customers to access banking services at our Kiria-ini, Nyeri or Mukurweini branches,” the bank announced.

Equity also encouraged customers to access their accounts through its range of digital services, including mobile banking, online platforms and ATMs.

“You can also access your account by dialing *247#, using Equitel, the Equity Mobile App or Equity Cards,” the statement read.

Equity Bank has assured its customers that it is working to resolve the situation and resume normal operations at the Othaya branch.

Further updates are expected as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.

For now, customers are encouraged to remain patient and use the alternatives listed to ensure their banking needs are met without interruption.
