In Begusarai, Bihar, a jewelry store owner fought off armed robbers who attacked his store, resulting in a shootout that was shared on social media. The robbery took place at Patel Chowk, where four men entered the store in what can be described as customers’ disguises. Two of them immediately took the escalation to the next level, pointing at people with their weapons and ordering everyone to retreat.

Security cameras recorded the dramatic moments when one of the thieves jumped over the counter to steal jewelery worth Rs 40 lakh. Rajeev Poddar, son of shop owner Pramod Poddar, who was present during the robbery, informed him of the disturbance. Poddar rushed to the spot with a licensed pistol and challenged the robbers. He shot two of them and in the process managed to hit them both during the ensuing melee.

Police reported that two of the robbers were arrested shortly after the robbery; the two are admitted to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Fortunately, no one was killed during the robbery; customers and employees were not seriously injured. Police have launched an investigation into the attack, with officers scouring security cameras to identify other culprits.

Poddar complained about the lack of security measures when warnings were given to local authorities about the possibility of threats ahead of Dhanteras, a major jewelry selling festival. He said: “We raised the issue with management and they never did anything about it.”

The event raised concerns about security in commercial districts, especially during festive times of year. Many people were around at the time of the incident, and the police investigation showed that people are concerned about the possibility of such incidents happening openly.

While police are still searching for the other suspects and as more business owners seek answers on how to protect their investments from criminals, this incident is a wake-up call for all business owners.
