NYS Assembly Candidate Appears to Steal Election Mail

NYS Assembly Candidate Appears to Steal Election Mail

Election Day is less than two weeks away, and now we know there is a video of Republican New York State Assembly candidate Joe Mastroianni appearing to steal political mail from a voter’s mailbox, which is a federal crime.

Video provided by the law office of Frank Salamone, who is also chairman of the Schenectady County Democratic Committee, shows that Mastroianni appears to be stealing election mail sent by current Assembly member Angelo Santabarbara. A voter in Scotland retrieved the video after realizing she did not receive the item that appeared in her delivery reported by the US Postal Service.

In Ring camera videos, the mailman can be seen delivering Santabarbara’s direct mail around 1:30 p.m. and then Mastroianni can be seen walking to the porch with a woman just before 6 p.m.

You can see – it looks like Mastroianni takes out the mailer, folds it and puts it in his pocket while laughing.

Salamone asks him to cease campaign activities and resign from the Rotterdam City Council.

In a statement, Salamone said in part:

In addition to the criminality of stealing mail, Mr. Mastroianni has clearly demonstrated that he does not possess the judgment and character necessary to hold public office.
