Asylum legislation that needs to be repealed

In each of the three years leading up to the last elections, the previous Government introduced new asylum legislation which Parliament duly approved.

The current Government has signaled in various ways its intention to break with its predecessor’s policy on asylum for reasons of cost. While the extraordinary sums of public money wasted by his predecessor make a good argument for this, there are many other profound reasons why he should change course.

However, if you are to achieve what you have signaled as your intention, you must repeal the legislation that underpins your predecessor’s policy, including legislation that has no purpose other than to allow or even require that policy to be implemented.
