Delhi High Court issues notice on PIL seeking regulation to allow resale of concert tickets through ‘authorized platforms’

The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice on a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking formulation and implementation of a regulatory framework relating to resale of concert tickets through an authorized ticketing platform.

A division bench composed of Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela it also sought response from the Union Government and other authorities regarding the unauthorized sale of tickets by certain online platforms.

The PIL, filed by one Samridhi and other individuals, further seeks to block the operation of illegal online platforms in India, where illegal and unauthorized sale of tickets is carried out by them in violation of law.

Senior advocate Rajshekhar Rao, appearing for the petitioners, referred to the Coldplay concert ticket controversy and said the issue needs to be resolved soon to avoid incidents of unauthorized sale of tickets through reselling websites.

He submitted that the Court has already issued notice on similar PIL against the practice of “Ticket Scalping”.

In this regard, the Judge issued notice on the PIL and listed it for hearing on February 18, when another PIL was also listed.

Recently, a PIL was filed in the Bombay High Court regarding the “ticket escalation” of the Coldplay concert. The appeal seeks the formation of guidelines to address the practices of black marketing, ticket promotion and online ticket scalping during concerts and other events.
