Virginia Women’s Sneakers | Natasha Subhash among 30 finalists for NCAA Woman of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS – The Woman of the Year Selection Committee announced that Virginia women’s tennis alumna Natasha Subhash has been named one of 30 national honorees for the 2024 NCAA Woman of the Year Awards.

Selected from more than 600 nominees submitted by member schools – a group that was then whittled down to 164 conference-level nominees – the top 30 honorees include 10 from each of the NCAA’s three divisions.

Subhash is just the fourth student-athlete in Virginia history to be named to the Top 30, joining 1998 NCAA Woman of the Year Peggy Boutilier (lacrosse/field hockey) and 1999 finalist Charlotte Davis Quesada (rowing) and 2010 Top 30 honoree Mei Christensen (swimming).

The selection committee will determine three honorees from each NCAA division for a total of nine finalists. The NCAA Women’s Athletics Committee will choose the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year from among the finalists.

The NCAA Woman of the Year will be named and the Top 30 will be celebrated at the NCAA Convention in January.

Established in 1991, the award is rooted in Title IX and recognizes student-athletes who have completed their undergraduate studies and have distinguished themselves in their community, athletics and academics throughout their college careers.

Subhash graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in commerce in 2023 and a master’s degree in accounting in 2024.

During his time at UVA, Subhash achieved numerous academic and athletic honors. She has been recognized as a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree, a five-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, a five-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll and a three-time recipient of UVA’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. She also received the 2023 Walter B. Doggett Accounting Award from the McIntire School of Commerce for her exceptional academic performance in accounting.

Subhash has made significant contributions to the UVA women’s tennis program. She concluded her career as a four-time ITA All-American and received the 2022 Ralph Sampson Scholarship Award for demonstrating excellence in academics, leadership and athletics. Subhash has also received national recognition, being named National Freshman of the Year in 2020 and receiving the 2023 Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award.

On the tennis court, she achieved the third-most singles wins (117), the fourth-most doubles wins (111), and the fourth-most combined singles and doubles wins (228) in Virginia history. women’s tennis program. Additionally, she has won the ITA Atlantic Region Singles Championship twice and the 2023 ITA Atlantic Regional Doubles Championship with her partner, Hibah Shaikh.

Outside of athletics, Subhash has been actively involved in the UVA community. She served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, participated in the Student-Athlete Leadership Academy and volunteered with programs such as the ACE Program, Madison House and the Xperience Special Olympics Tennis Clinic. Additionally, she mentored student-athletes at the McIntire School of Commerce.
